If you’ve ever loved someone with dementia, then you understand just how difficult it is for them and everyone they love. When it reaches the point where they’re rarely themselves, it makes every moment they are all the more special. A young woman named Lacey Snell understands this well. That’s why, when her grandpa with memory loss had a rare moment of lucidity, she caught it on camera.
In the video, we can see that Lacey is crouched down next to her grandpa, who she calls Pop. Although we don’t see what prompts this conversation, we do know that Pop can’t stop telling Lacey how proud her.

“When your grandpa who has memory loss decides on a random Sunday he remembers you and wants to tell you something,” Lacey shares. “I don’t know how I’m ever going to live without this man. I am who I am because of him.”
During their conversation, Pop talks about how wonderful Lacey turned out, noting that she has a great mom and dad. But, as Lacey points out, there’s one very special person in her life who he didn’t mention: himself.
“You’re a great Pop,” Lacey insists.
“I try to be,” he replies with a smile.
Because Lacey never knows when or if Pop remembers her again, she always makes an effort to truly take in special moments like these. In turn, she’s inspiring others to do the same.
“The way you are both soaking up the moment because you both know he remembers at the current time,” one person writes in the comment section.
“If this was the last time,” Lacey says in reply, “I wanted it to be the one I remembered the most.”
