The Frogeritaville Frog Hotel held its grand opening in July 2024. The small hotel is made from PVC piping, rocks, and soil. It gives frogs a safe hiding place in Jollean Smith’s patio garden. She keeps the rocks moist, which helps the frogs during the blazing summer temperatures. A self-proclaimed nature nerd, Jollean recorded the construction sequence if you want to build one for your yard.

In the Jimmy Buffett tradition of Margaritaville, the frog hotel sports a sign that says, “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.” The well-known slogan is a mainstay for Buffett fans worldwide. Jollean isn’t the only one who thinks frogs deserve a place of their own. Noticing a frog living in his fence, an Australian man named the frog Froderick and built him an entire villa. Frod loved his new digs so much, he invited friends over and had wild frog parties.
It didn’t take Jollean’s frog hotel long to attract some tiny occupants. The facilities aren’t nearly as lavish as Froderick’s, but they offer a comfortable, moist, dark area for the frogs to rest. The little animals can relax away from predators and get a break from the daytime heat.
The design of Frogeritavilla makes it inexpensive, easy to make, and maintain. The size is adjustable to fit the space you have available. The pot allows it to be moved inside during winter months in climates that require that. By leaving the seams unsealed on the PVC joints, it is easy to check for guests and water level and make adjustments as necessary.
