“Friends” Co-Star Matt LeBlanc Pens Emotional Tribute To The Late Matthew Perry.

A two-photo collage. The first shows Matt LeBlanc and Mathew Perry on "Friends." They're both sitting in a canoe in their apartment with nothing else in the room. The second photo shows the two of them hugging on "Friends," though we can only see Matthew Perry's face from this angle.

If you’re a fan of “Friends” then you understand that the friendship between characters Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing was one of the best on the show. But this on-air friendship extended far beyond these fictional characters. In real life, actors Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry were also close. When the news of Perry’s death came out on October 28, I noticed LeBlanc’s name mentioned frequently by fans who were wondering how he was taking the news.

First, the main cast of “Friends” released a joint statement where they expressed they were “shocked and deeply, deeply saddened” by their “beloved friend Matthew’s passing.” Now, just today, LeBlanc shared his own heartfelt message on Instagram, accompanied by several photos of the two of them on set. The last photo shows the whole cast together, huddled in a circle.

“Matthew,” LeBlanc’s post starts. “It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life. It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never. Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love. And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me.”

My heart goes out to LeBlanc, the rest of the “Friends” cast, and Perry’s family during this difficult time.
