Foster Kitten Was Spicy As All Get-Out… Until She Met Poppy

Images show adult cat Poppy working her magic on spicy foster kitten Wasabi.

When it comes to fostering kittens, Ashley Saldana is no stranger to the danger. A recent batch of feral foster kittens turned out to be quite spicy. The three little snarling, scratching, biting babies wanted no part of any human. However, Ashley has a secret weapon. Poppy, seen here taking a turn with Wasabi:

When the spicy foster kittens were ready for names, Ashley matched their monikers to their spicy little personalities. The first is now Tabasco, the second is Sriracha, and the third is Wasabi. When it was time to unleash the secret weapon to tame the spicy little kittens, Poppy stepped right up.

Poppy is a kitten whisperer. When a spicy baby is placed anywhere near her, she immediately takes control. She acts like a surrogate mom and starts gently grooming each kitten. Within seconds, they are calm and content. Poppy displays her expertise within minutes, taming the “hissy & spicy” Sriracha. The tiny tuxedo cat (formerly known as tornado cat) melted in Poppy’s embrace.

Poppy’s magic works by adding oxytocin to the mix. A gentle touch can lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels, having the same effect on Poppy and the foster kitten simultaneously. Watch the magic work on Tabasco:

Anyone who has ever dealt with a spicy kitten yearns for a Poppy. Whether the kitten was feral or mishandled, making it bite and scratch, Poppy is able to calm them almost instantly. Her nurturing presence truly is magic.
