It’s not every day that a marriage proposal takes place on the football field, much less following an epic victory. These kind of feel-good, heart pounding moments are usually reserved for the big screen… but not always!
In late November of 2022, life was pretty great for Coach Jacob Walls and the Benjamin Russell Wildcats. Jacob had just helped lead the high school football team to their “best finish in years” when he crouched down on bended knee. In front of the entire team and and gathered spectators, Jacob asked his girlfriend, Emily, to marry him. She quickly answered yes and the crowd erupted in loud celebration!

Of course, the proposal was captured on video and continues to get an “awwww”-some response from TikTok viewers! But we can’t decide whose reaction is better: Emily’s or the Wildcats’?
In one of the engagement videos posted online, Emily appears in a montage of photographs that highlight her changing expressions – from shock to giddy disbelief to elation. This sweet tribute is accompanied by the classic wedding song, “Going to the Chapel” by The Paragons.
Another video shows the exchange from a slight distance. While the proposal itself is difficult to hear, the reaction from the Wildcats says it all. Scores of young football players are seen jumping up and down in excitement as they surround Jacob and Emily. The Wildcats can also be heard screaming and cheering for the newly engaged couple!
