First “Peanuts” Musical in 35 Years Premieres In August

Peanuts musical

When Charles Schulz drew Snoopy and the Peanuts gang in 1950, he never could have anticipated the impact those characters would have on pop culture. It’s been 75 years since we met Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, and the rest of their Peanuts friends, yet they remain an essential and beloved part of Americana. AppleTV+ became the exclusive home of Peanuts in 2019. Since then, fans have been able to enjoy all their favorite classic Peanuts cartoons and holiday specials. This August, for the first time in decades, fans will have the chance to watch a new Peanuts musical on AppleTV+

The New “Peanuts” Special Is The Perfect End Of Summer Treat

According to a release, the new special, Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical, premieres August 15. The show will feature original music from Jeff Morrow and Ben Folds. This is the first Peanuts musical special in 35 years.

In the new show, Charlie Brown heads off to his last summer of camp and wants to make it special. He also wants to make the summer fun for his younger sister, Sally, who is experiencing camp for the first time. But while on their adventure at summer camp, they learn some sad news.

“One morning, the Peanuts gang learns that their beloved camp is shutting down because fewer campers are joining each summer. The news especially saddens Charlie Brown, who feels hopeless about losing a place that has meant so much to him and his friends,” a release explains. “Meanwhile, on their adventure, Snoopy and Woodstock find the sought-after treasure chest, but are quickly disappointed when they discover it’s not riches, but instruments and photos from past summer concerts held at the camp. Newly inspired, Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang use the treasure to host their own concert to save the camp.”
