There are few animals in the world as famous as Fiona.
The 3-year-old hippopotamus was born at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden in Ohio and has become a viral star thanks to her popular Facebook show. She’s also the subject of not one but two children’s books!
“Saving Fiona” was written and illustrated by New York Times bestseller Richard Cowdrey and published in June 2018. Now he’s back with a third book, and is eager to share it with the world!
“Fiona, It’s Bedtime” is just plain adorable! Better still, a portion of all sales will go directly to the zoo to help keep it afloat during the COVID-19 shutdown.
With Cincinnati in a mandatory isolation period, it’s more important than ever to support the zoo’s incredible mission of “creating adventure, conveying knowledge, conserving nature, and serving the community.” Not to mention, the animals need to be taken care of no matter what.
Just a week before the book’s official release, Thane joined Fiona at Hippo Cove to read her (and us!) the soothing bedtime story. It features several of Fiona’s neighbors and has everything the animal-loving kids in your life will adore!
Judging by the way Fiona popped out of the water as Thane read to her, we’re pretty sure she agrees!
Since no one can visit the zoo right now, they’ve started a new “Life Home Safari” program online. Every day at 3 p.m. EST, you can tune in on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to learn about a different animal.
What a wonderful way to raise awareness and resources for one of the most beloved zoos in the country. We can’t wait to snap up a copy of Fiona’s newest book on April 7. You can get yours here!
Watch Thane read to Fiona in the video below, and don’t forget to share the love with your friends. For more stories of joy and hope, check out the Coronavirus Good News Dashboard.
