Famed Hollywood Recording Mixer Douglas E. Turner Dead at 93

Sometimes the most memorable part of a movie or TV show isn’t he characters, plot, or funny line. Often, the sensory experience takes your favorite film or show to the next level. The cinematography and sounds will stick with us for a lifetime. It takes a highly creative mind to mix those sounds. Sadly, we recently lost one of the best in the business. Douglas E. Turner, the famed Hollywood recording mixer, knew how to hook an audience. Douglas, best known for his work on Deliverance and The Elephant Man, passed away on May 5 at his home in California on May 5 at age 93. His wife of 37 years, Justine Turner, confirmed his death to The Hollywood Reporter.

Douglas E. Turner Had A Long Career In Hollywood

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Douglas E. Turner worked for 36 years as a recording mixer and created some very memorable sounds. He worked on Oscar-nominated Deliverance and the Oscar-winning short film The Old Man and the Sea in 1999. He also mixed The Gambler, The Return of the Pink Panther, Side by Side, Puberty Blues, and The Omen. Fans may also remember Douglas E. Turner’s work on The X-Files, The Hijacking of the Achille Lauro, and Caroline? He also shared his talents in the eighth season of L.A. Law.

Per the Daily Express, fans paid tribute to Douglas E. Tuner online

Oner wrote. “This is very sad news.”

I adored Doug. We met at Cannon Films and he called all of us American kids ‘gov’. Wicked sense of humour and what a magnificent resume. Happy to report, I was there when he met his future wife (Justine) whom he remained with for 37 years. You’ll be greatly missed, Gov,” another shared.

Douglas E. Tuner leaves behind his wife, Justine, who worked as a sound editor on films like Dances with Wolves and Field of Dreams. Douglas is also survived by daughters  Sierra Rose and Glynnis, sons Malcolm and Steve, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
