When you’re deployed overseas with the U.S. military, sometimes you miss the small comforts of home. Even minor things like having a clean pair of underwear to wear can mean so much when you’re roughing it far away from home and family.
In May 2013, military wife Vania Ferreira wrote in to the Ellen Degeneres Show explaining that her husband, Air Battle Manager Rob Ferreira, was deployed in southwest Asia and had told her over Skype that he and his fellow soldiers were running very low on clean skivvies. They’d even resorted to sharing!

Vania asked Ellen to send some of Ellen’s famous “Ellen” underwear to the boys overseas to cheer them up. Naturally, Ellen decided to take things a huge step further! First, Ellen surprised Vania by bringing Rob onto a Skype call live on air.

Ellen brought the couple’s’ two children, Jack and Noelle, onto the stage so they could see their daddy. Ellen then gifted the troops with dozens of pairs of her signature Ellen underwear. Vania, who was pregnant with their third child at the time, seemed genuinely thrilled with the present Rob had received… but Ellen wasn’t done yet!

Ellen announced that Vania and her new baby would also receive a huge number of baby products that Ellen had given away during their Mother’s Day promotion. Already overwhelmed, you can imagine how ecstatic they were when Ellen gave them a check for $20,000 to help them pay off student loan debt!
