“You Are Advancing Step By Step.” A Grandma’s Wise Advice When Life Gets Tough.

You know the saying “death by a thousand paper cuts”? That’s what life feels like sometimes. The bills pile up, the sink fills with dirty dishes, and stress weighs on you more and more. As everyday tasks, annoyances, and worries build, the burden becomes so overwhelming that you don’t know where to start.

That’s where this grandmother’s wise words come in. Elena Mikhalkova shared the simple yet profound advice her grandmother gave her about what to do when life gets difficult, and it’s changing lives around the world.

My grandmother once gave me a tip:
In difficult times, you move forward in small steps.
Do what you have to do, but little by little.
Don't think about the future, or what may happen tomorrow.
Wash the dishes.
Remove the dust.
Write a letter.
Make a soup.
You see?
You are advancing step by step.
Take a step and stop.
Rest a little.
Praise yourself.
Take another step.
Then another.
You won't notice, but your steps will grow more and more.
And the time will come when you can think about the future without crying.

What beautiful advice! When the sum of all your problems seems overwhelming, it only makes sense to break it down into the individual issues and handle one at a time, all while treating yourself with compassion. We’re very glad Elena’s grandmother gave her this advice, and we’re even more grateful we get to benefit from it, too.
