Opera Singer Improvises Entire Audition And It’s Unlike Anything We’ve Ever Heard.

Ekaterina Shelehova singing

We’ve seen more than our fair share of talent show performances, but we’ve never heard anything like Ekaterina Shelehova before.

Ekaterina was born in Russia and grew up in Canada. She started singing when she was 3, and now, at age 25, she has her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in opera. She currently lives in Italy, so when she got the opportunity to audition for “Italia’s Got Talent,” she went for it!

For her audition, Ekaterina did something highly unusual: She didn’t select a song! Instead, she sang a completely improvised original called “Earth Melodies.” The judges looked skeptical when she started out with delicate breath work, but it quickly became apparent that her voice is an instrument she is adept at playing. Her voice rose to a soprano trill and fell to a baritone low, reminding us alternately of birdsong and throaty chanting. By the time she’d finished, the entire audience was on their feet for a standing ovation.

Unsurprisingly, Ekaterina’s electrifying performance went viral with over 8 million views. A few months later, it went viral a second time, this time reaching 28 million views! Watch her performance in the video below for a very unique listening experience, and don’t forget to share this story.
