“Watch My Ducks Scare Off My Rooster And Laugh About It”

Left image shows a tan and white duck chasing away a white rooster. Right image is a group of ducks laughing about scaring the duck away.

The rooster normally rules the yard on most farms. They keep the hens in line and ensure other animals stay away from “his girls.” At Holly’s Hens, where the “low maintenance girls are feral,” the ducks are staging an uprising and fighting back. The ducks have been seen chasing the rooster. When he scampers off, they stand around in duck clutches and cackle at his misfortune. These ducks are hardcore!

We’re not sure why the rooster is such a chicken when chased by the ducks. The little quackers seem somewhat unruly, especially that beige and white one! The rooster is just hanging in the yard, minding his own business. After getting chased off, the ducks gather and start cackling. It sounds entirely like the little bullies are laughing.

We can’t imagine what prompted this behavior. We doubt it, but the rooster may have been the bully, and the ducks finally had enough. When standing up to any bully, unity in the community always works. The ducks are indeed unified in their defense of the grassy knoll.

The rooster’s name is Walter. He usually is a very conscientious fellow. When he finds treats, he signals his hens and allows them to have the treats first. This behavior, called “tidbitting,” is a standard rooster trait. A dominant bird will offer tidbits to his hens or a juvenile rooster. The ducks may have been protecting their stash of tidbits and didn’t want Walter sharing it with his girls.

It could have been a territorial battle. Roosters may occasionally attempt to mate with female ducks when cohabiting. Although not harmful, it is not a pleasant experience for the female duck.

Please share if you thought this barnyard “brawl” was hilarious.
