When EPCOT opened in 1982, the new Walt Disney World Park brought Walt Disney’s vision of an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow to life. When people think of EPCOT, they often envision the large silver sphere that many think resembles a golf ball. That giant structure is home to Spaceship Earth, one of the park’s most beloved rides. Walk Disney World announced Spaceship Earth will close in August 2025 for a much-needed refurbishment. The 15-minute dark ride will return in late 2025, looking refreshed.

Fans Love Riding Spaceship Earth When They Visit EPCOT
Disney Parks describes Spaceship Earth as a quick way to travel through time at EPCOT.
“It’s the flagship attraction of EPCOT and the signature symbol of the park. To create the experience inside the iconic geosphere, Disney Imagineers assembled some of the world’s greatest talents,” the website explains. “The all-star roster includes Academy Award® winner Judi Dench as the narrator and Emmy® winner Bruce Broughton, who conducted a 63-piece orchestra and 24-voice choir for his musical score. If you listen closely, you’ll notice that the music for each scene features styles and instruments appropriate to the era, transitioning seamlessly into the next—no small feat.”
Scott Gustin, who posts Disney content on social media, shared the news on X.
“Spaceship Earth at EPCOT will close for routine refurbishment beginning August 25 and is scheduled to reopen later this year,” he wrote.
“Hoping they make some updates too such as the animatronics being smoother & updating the computer age portion,” a fan wrote.
This person hopes EPCOT gives Spaceship Earth plenty of attention. “it needs a big refurb like test track just got… not a small 3-5 month refurb with tiny updates like astro orbiter just got.”
This Disney guest is not excited writing, “What’s later this year???? I’m going the end of October. So many ride closings. I’m about to cancel.”
There is no word on an exact reopening date for Spaceship Earth at EPCOT, but we’re sure it will be worth the wait.
