Dick Van Dyke’s 100th Birthday Caused an Unexpected Internet Movement

Dick Van Dyke is a national treasure. He turned 100 on December 13, officially crowning him a centenarian. Not many people get to celebrate a birthday in the triple digits, and the world’s definitely a better place with Dick in it. If we’ve learned anything from Dick Van Dyke, it’s that age is just a number. He’s as lively at 100 as many people half his age. Dick loves to have fun, and one very observant fan realized that when he turned 100, he was officially too old for a beloved pastime, and they want to change that. At 100 years old, Dick Van Dyke can no longer play with Lego, and it broke Jesse Hamad’s heart.

The Fan Created a Petition So Dick Van Dyke Can Play Lego

According to Jesse’s petition, Dick Van Dyke officially falls outside the age range for playing with Lego, which he finds totally unacceptable.

“Lego has been a source of joy and creativity for many, including the beloved entertainer Dick Van Dyke. Lego is marketed for individuals aged 4 to 99, but at 100 years old, Dick is now technically outside of this age range. This disheartening technicality seemingly excludes him from engaging with his cherished Lego sets, which is totally unacceptable,” Jesse wrote.

He added that Dick Van Dyke deserves the joy of Lego.

“Dick Van Dyke, an icon who has brought laughter and happiness to countless lives through his work, should not be deprived of a hobby that brings him joy in his personal life. Age should not be a barrier to creativity and enjoyment. These blocks offer a space for imagination and innovation, regardless of whether someone is 4 or 104,” Jesse wrote.

Jesse wants everyone 100 years old or older to have the chance to play Lego, just like Dick Van Dyke.

“This petition seeks to draw attention to this trivial yet impactful oversight in Lego’s marketing age range. We propose an amendment to the age guidelines to be inclusive of individuals beyond 99, so legends like Dick Van Dyke, and indeed anyone over the age of 99, can continue to indulge their passion without feeling excluded,” the petition reads.

We love this and can’t wait to hear what Lego has to say!
