“Day 22 Of Hiding My Cats’ Dinner For Enrichment”

Cat brothers search for hidden dinner during a cat enrichment activity.

We have discussed the importance of animal enrichment activities for wild animals in captivity. Ensuring animals have sufficient mental and emotional stimulation to thrive is a key aspect of enrichment. If you have a domesticated cat, they will also thrive when offered enrichment activities.

Kit and Mico are two tuxedo cats who have a very caring cat dad. Almost a month ago, the cats’ dad decided to add some enrichment to their daily routine. They are currently on Day 26 and seem to love the activity. Their dad has been putting them in a separate room for a few minutes each evening before dinner. While the two cats are safe, he hides their dinner in the kitchen.

When the krakens are released, they tear around the room searching for their food. They can smell it, but their dad hides it in boxes, play tubes, and other areas to make it difficult to find. The first night of dinnertime cat enrichment was slow and relaxed. The tuxedos were just learning the ropes. By the second night, they picked up the pace. The longer they play the game, the more frantic their searching becomes.

Sometimes, the frantic kitties run right past their dinner several times before they settle on it. By Day 18, the cats are getting really good at this enrichment stuff. Watching them speed around the kitchen at warp speed is hilarious. They really seem to enjoy working up an appetite before scarfing down all their food like starving cat babies.

To watch Kit and Mico continue their cat enrichment journey, please follow them on TikTok. Their cat dad does a lot of additional play to stimulate their little kitty brains and keep their instincts sharp.
