When torrential rains and flooding took over New York City, Mayor Eric Adam instructed everyone to shelter in place — but a sea lion at the Central Park Zoo had plans of her own. Normally, you’ll find her and her sea lion friends at their pool, but once the rain water began to rise, this mischievous creature found a way to swim out of the pool and out onto the flooded plaza.

Best of all, she was able to do so safely! The sea lion remained within the zoo’s outer perimeter, and zoo staff monitored her nearby. In fact, upon spotting the curious creature, they chose to let her have a bit of an adventure before having her returned to her home.
The zoo was closed ahead of the storm so that the staff could take care of the animals. Thankfully, this means that nobody got hurt. All in all, sounds like a pretty great day for this silly sea lion!
