Craig Melvin Shares Grateful Update Following Scary Morning at “Today”

Craig Melvin wants Today Show fans to know that he’s OK following a pretty scary moment on July 16, 2026. An intruder allegedly broke into the Rockefeller Center studio and approached Craig, yelling racial slurs, according to court documents obtained by People. Police later arrested 41-year-old Andrew Truelove, who is being charged with a hate crime. The suspect reportedly also tried to find Al Roker while he was inside. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Craig Melvin Shared an Update with Fans

Craig Melvin took to Instagram to update fans and thank them for the support.

“Hey everyone. I’ve heard from so many of you over the last few hours. I’m doing just fine. Thanks for reaching out. I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning on@todayshow,” Craig wrote.

He also shared a statement from NBC News that reads in part, “NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios.”

Fans were glad to hear that Craig Melvin is OK and planning to get back to work.

“I just read it moments ago and it makes me sick,” a fan wrote. “Im sorry this happened to you Craig.”

This person agreed, writing, “I’m happy you’re OK and I’m so sorry that happened to you. I’m sure it was frightening for everyone.”

It’s been a hard few months for Today, but they have many fans in their corner.
