Soldiers Fall In Love With 4 Dogs Overseas And Fly Them 4,000 Miles To Forever Homes.

Sgt. Corina Kimball has always found comfort in the dogs she meets while serving overseas. But it wasn’t until her fourth experience that she came across two strays she couldn’t bear to leave behind.

During her one-year deployment to Poland with the 652nd Regional Support Group, both Kimball and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Matthew Anderson fell head over heels with their camps’ furry visitors. So when it was time to head home, they refused to say goodbye!

Kimball and Anderson’s Army Reserve unit ran 11 base camps in Poland.

As Kimball was working at the Trzebien location, she met Pepper and Cinnamon about a month in. Both pups were wary of people, but they would accept food from the soldiers, who eventually built them a home where they could take shelter from bad weather.

Meanwhile, Anderson wasn’t as receptive to canine guests at the Karliki camp. When he first spotted Mimi and Moose, he told his soldiers not to let them onto the base. He didn’t want the sweet dogs to become dependent on their unit for food, seeing as they weren’t going to be around forever. But the two of them still managed to worm their way into his heart!

One rainy night, Anderson saw the pair again. A soldier admitted that he had let them in because of the cold, and this time, Anderson couldn’t resist feeding them. When he went to help them back outside, he found Moose curled up and shivering in a bush.

“It was at that point I made the decision I had to do something,” Anderson said. “Moose was not well, he was suffering. He had contracted giardia from drinking whatever water was available and he was emaciated.”

That’s when Anderson began caring for the dogs himself. After sending some pictures to his wife Cristina, the couple agreed they had to bring the precious pups home!

Cristina contacted Guardians of Rescue, a New York group that was willing to get involved. They, in turn, put Kimball in touch with Paws of War, a nonprofit that helps service members adopt stray dogs in war zones.

When Kimball finally returned home to Great Falls, Montana, on August 2, she was able to pick Pepper and Cinnamon up in Seattle the next day!

As for Anderson, when he reached Bellingham, Washington, he welcomed Moose and Mimi into his family!

While it took plenty of time, effort, and money to fly the dogs to their forever homes, Kimball and Anderson would do it all over again!

These days, Mimi and Moose couldn’t be happier with their new furry siblings, and Cinnamon and Pepper have left their fear behind to settle into the good life.

We would call this a happy ending, but a happy beginning is more accurate! Every dog deserves a good home, no matter where they come from. Enjoy your new lives together, all of you!
