Christina Applegate has been in the entertainment industry since she was a literal baby. But in 2021, a life-changing diagnosis threatened to put a stop to her career. Over the course of a few months, the actor began to experience unusual symptoms. This included numbness in her feet, falling over, and needing to use a wheelchair to get to set.

Then, in August 2021, Applegate was officially diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. This disease impacts the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Learning this, she came to the conclusion that her career in Hollywood may be over.
At the Screen Actors Guild Award last year, Applegate shared that it very well could be her last awards ceremony. But this proved to be wrong when the actor surprised everyone with a visit to the 2024 Emmy Awards.
In a video capturing the moment Applegate enters the stage, and the crowd absolutely goes wild. This makes the actor emotional. Still, she goes on to present the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. And she did so with her typical humor, of course!

“We don’t have to applaud every time I do something,” she jokes at one point.
As much as Applegate’s career and overall life have changed since 2021, it seems that the talented star has found a way to continue acting, all while accommodating to her new needs.
“I can’t even imagine going to set right now,” Applegate says. “This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse. I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working.”
No matter what the future holds, one thing is for sure: Applegate is clearly loved and supported by her community and fans!
