Christina Aguilera and An Old Friend Reunite After His Amazing 4-Chair-Turn Performance on The Voice

Running into someone you grew up with is always an interesting experience. Add a few million people watching that moment while you’re also singing, and you have the perfect formula for Tony Lucca’s reintroduction to his long, lost friend.

On February 5, 2012, Lucca took to the stage to audition on NBC’s second season of The Voice. In his brief story setup before his performance, he revealed that he used to be a Mouseketeer in Disney’s long-running Mickey Mouse Club, alongside Voice judge Christina Aguilera and some other big names in the entertainment business (Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, JC Chasez, and Ryan Gosling to name a few).

Then, for the next 90 seconds, Aguilera’s back (as well as CeeLo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton) was turned towards Lucca. But, once his mouth opened, and his cover of Ray LaMontagne’s Trouble began to glide out, he convinced all four of the judges (well, three technically) to smash their buttons and fight for Lucca to be on their team.

Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t his voice that triggered Aguilera’s memory, or even seeing him after turning around to watch his performance. No, the realization came over Christina in a wave after Lucca walked off stage.

Aguilera ran after him, with her jaw agape and a hustle in her step.

It just goes to show, even if it’s been decades, people that we’ve shared powerful moments during in our lifetimes will still be able to recognize us. It just may take a little bit longer. (And hopefully you won’t have to sing first).

Below is his amazing performance that carried him back into stardom.  You can watch the full reunion by clicking here.
