Frantic Parents Give Birth In Chipotle Parking Lot, So Staff Surprises Them Weeks Later.

Was it fate, or some sort of cosmic coincidence?

Denver residents Adrianna Alvarez and Saul Flores met years ago, when they both worked at a Chipotle. And when their fourth child entered the world last month, it wasn’t in a maternity ward or even at home.

The parents of a baby boy who was born in a Chipotle parking lot got to meet the dispatcher who talked them through the birth weeks later, when Chipotle hosted a burrito-themed baby shower for the happy couple.

The contractions started on the morning of April 10, but they were spaced far enough apart that she figured she had enough time to send her older children off to school. Only afterward did she wake Raul and tell him she was in labor and needed to get to the hospital.

But things moved quickly after that: Her water broke as soon as they got in the car, and as they sped toward the hospital, she could feel the baby crowning. They weren’t going to make it in time!

Raul, still driving frantically behind the wheel, called 911 and was soon connected to Angie Schell, who works as an emergency dispatcher with South Metro Fire Rescue. Even though she’s worked as an emergency dispatcher for the past 18 years, this would be the first birth she’d ever talked a couple through.

By now, Adrianna’s contractions were less than a minute apart, so Angie instructed Raul to pull over to the nearest safe location. Which, of course, happened to be a Chipotle parking lot:

Just moments later, baby Jaden was born. As soon as she heard him cry, Angie noted the time on her computer and “my supervisor came up and told me to look at the time.”

That’s when we realized baby Jaden was born at 9:11 a.m. – a significant number to a 911 dispatcher. It was a nice coincidence.

And the happy group was in for another pleasant surprise just weeks later.

Of course, Angie couldn’t pass up the opportunity to congratulate them in person.

“He’s a healthy little guy,” she said. “Look at all that hair. We don’t hardly ever get to meet our patients.”
