Would you go for a drive on the world’s tallest bridge? Starting in June, those who live near the Huajiang Grand Canyon will have the opportunity to do just that. Construction on the bridge began back in 2022, but it’s easy to understand why it’s taken so long to complete. It’s set to be 1.8 miles long and will stand about 2,050 feet above sea level. For context, that is 947 feet taller than the current tallest bridge: the Millau Viaduct in France.

You may be wondering: What is the purpose of creating a bridge that tall? Well, turns out, there’s a very good reason, actually. And it’s not just because building the tallest bridge in the world sounds cool! It’s being built right above the Huajiang Grand Canyon, making it the perfect connection between more rural areas (like Guizhou) and more populous areas (like Shenzhen.) Check out the impressive progress being made in the video below!

Huajiang Grand Canyon in China is Set to Become the New Tallest Bridge in the World Once Completed on June 30
While this is an understandably popular sentiment from folks online, for those who will have access to this bridge, it has the potential to be life-changing. At the moment, those in rural areas around this canyon face incredibly long commutes. In fact, getting around the canyon itself takes around two hours.
Once the bridge is complete, however, it will take a mere minute. In other words, millions of people will soon have much better access to a number of places. This includes markets, hospitals, schools, and more. How cool is that!?
