A cat with a keen sense of direction helped save the life of a man who was lost in the blistering cold Swiss Alps. A Hungarian hiker was walking in the Alps near Gimmelwald, Switzerland when he sprained his ankle. He struggled to find his way back towards help. But when his path became blocked he suddenly became disoriented.
“Gimmelwald is a tiny, tiny stunningly beautiful village [and] I actually got ‘lost’ in the surrounding mountains,” the hiker said. “It was the end of ski season when I got to [the village of] Lauterbrunnen, so the lifts weren’t working and some of the trails were closed.”
But luckily a little cat was there to guide him to safety.
“[The cat] was just wandering around, [then] found me while I was resting from a hike,” the man said. “Then she [the cat] was walking and kept looking at me to follow [and] led me straight to the path that would take me back down to the valley,” he claimed.
The man posted his experience on Reddit recently and also the video below in 2013.
Other locals say they have spotted the black and white cat before around the small, beautiful town of Gimmelwald.
Afterwards, it was found that the cat belongs to a couple who own a hostel in the area.
What a rare and incredible encounter!
