People eagerly head out for spring and summer activities as spring rolls in. After a long winter of cabin fever, you might skip a few steps to experience nature faster. One fisherman offers a friendly public service announcement (PSA) about checking your equipment thoroughly before heading out. Charles Wallace was in a hurry and skipped checking the compartments on his boat before his first fishing trip. Out on the water, the fishermen discovered not one cat in the boat, but three, possibly four.

The momma cat was not in the boat, and the tiny kittens were still young and nursing. The guys, joking about catching some catfish, kept the kittens safe until they returned to shore. When they got home, Momma was waiting eagerly. The babies went back to their Mom after their unscheduled adventure.

The baby kittens were not harmed during the excursion. According to Charles’s comments, the Momma cat might not even have noticed her kittens and the boat missing. Although that might be true, most cat lovers would disagree. We’re just glad they were reunited and she picked up her mothering duties again.

Charles might want to consider taking the cats out on the boat more often. A couple of days after discovering the kittens, the fuel pump went out on them on their next fishing trip. They could have used the kittens to help paddle. Just kidding. They managed to get a tow back to the boat launch, so it ended well enough.

No matter what your summer activities are, it does pay to check your gear before heading out. Check compartments for stray baby kittens, set up that tent, count your stakes, and fill the gas can for your generator.
