There’s more than one way to provide therapy. Just ask the newest member of the Bristol, Rhode Island Police Force!
Brody is a 12-week-old chocolate lab puppy who has been training to be a therapy dog for the police force in Bristol since March. The force was torn over whether to bring on a bomb or narcotics-sniffing dog to the team, but school resource officer Keith Medeiros suggested that a comfort dog might help their community even more.

Boy, was he ever right! Officer Medeiros could never have known that the novel coronavirus would soon cause a huge disruption in our daily lives, but it turns out that K9 Officer Brody joined the force at just the right time.
“People are really stressed, especially in law enforcement,”Officer Medeiros explained. “Just by walking in the police department with Brody, people immediately smile, they immediately get into a better place. They want to pet him, want to hug him and it’s just a really good thing.â€

The only thing standing between Brody becoming a full-on member of the Bristol Police Department was his swearing in ceremony. On the big day, Officer Medeiros and Brody showed up right on time for their meeting with the chief of police. The department decided to stream the swearing in ceremony live on Facebook.
In the video, which has now gone viral, we see Brody lying on the table as the two uniformed cops perform the traditional ceremony. The only problem is that K9 Officer Brody is out like a light! As Officer Medeiros made his solemn vow to protect and serve, Brody slept through the whole thing!

Officer Medeiros says this is pretty normal for his new canine partner. “He plays really hard and he sleeps really hard,”Officer Medeiros said. “When he’s not playing, he’s sleeping, which is kind of tough because he sleeps a lot.â€
Considering how many people have found joy in this video since they shared in on Facebook, we’d say K9 Officer Brody is already doing a fabulous job of making people smile!
