Many infants become familiar with their family’s voices and other household sounds when they’re still in the womb, but that wasn’t the case for Sawyer Lenglin.

Sawyer is 4 years old, and he was born with a rare genetic disorder called Pendred syndrome. He has been hard of hearing since birth, so he has never heard his big sister Rosie’s voice, his baby brother Tucker’s cries, or his parents telling him they love him. All of that changed once he had cochlear implant surgery!
In a video his mother, Christina Lenglin, shared on TikTok, we get a front row seat to the beautiful moment when Sawyer hears his family speaking to him for the first time. His megawatt smile tells us everything we need to know about his feelings regarding the new device.
“I have literally not seen him smile that big in his whole life,” his mother gushes in the video. “That’s the biggest smile I’ve ever seen him do.”
