It may come as a surprise that one of the most requested items in homeless shelters is something many of us take for granted: socks.

That’s because people who are homeless tend to spend a lot of time on their feet, wearing down even the sturdiest socks and shoes. Shelters also aren’t allowed to accept donations of used socks for hygiene reasons, leaving little help for people who often walk between 8 to 12 miles each day. This fact was the impetus behind Bombas, a company started by Randy Goldberg and David Heath.
Randy and David knew they wanted to create a company that could donate socks to homeless communities across the United States, so they spent two years developing the “most comfortable socks in the history of feet.” They began by eliminating all of the things about standard socks that we dislike, from that irritating toe seam to the constant bunching-up or riding-down. The finished product is a quality sock with arch support, padding, and zero pilling.
Once they created the perfect sock, the co-founders needed funding to make their dream of helping the homeless a reality. They started with seed money from an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, but their biggest break came during an appearance on “Shark Tank” in 2014.
Randy and David sealed a deal with shark Daymond John, and the rest is history. Over the next decade, Bombas donated 75 million pairs of socks to the homeless!
Every single one of those 75 million pairs of socks was donated by customers, making Bombas a gift to yourself that also gives back.
To get donations out to the people who need them, Bombas created a Giving Partner Network that spans all 50 U.S. states. This network of over 3,500 partners distributes a clothing item to those in need for every Bombas item purchased.
In New York City, volunteers from the Coalition For The Homeless pass out food, coats, and comfy Bombas socks to the homeless every Tuesday night. They are just one of the thousands of Bombas partners providing a lot more than mere comfort; they’re also handing out dignity to those who truly need it.
That said, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the comfort itself! Designed with built-in arch support, a blister-preventing tab, and seamless toes, these socks are ready for anything. They’re comfy with super soft fabric and just the right amount of cushion – they were intelligently engineered for support, with their Hex Tec technology and cushioned footbed, so you can spend years wearing your Bombas.
This is a product we feel great about purchasing, so we teamed up with Bombas to give readers 20 percent off your first purchase using code Inspire20. Join the Bombas mission and give yourself a gift, while also giving a gift to someone who needs help – that’s what we call a win-win!
