Blind Golden Retriever Gets A Helping Hand From His Helpful Furry BFFs

Blind golden retriever cuddling with one of his "guide" cats.

Daredevil the Blind Golden is an animal rescue story that will restore your faith in everything. We often see golden retrievers trained as guide dogs for the blind. Daredevil has his version of a guide, shaped like a cat. Technically, four cats: Dangermouse, Duke Nukem, Grayskull, and Turtle. These four foster fails have taken on the responsibility of “seeing” that Daredevil has a quality life.

Dangermouse was a street rescue. He lost one eye to infection. Turtle, another street rescue, lost his tail. Siblings Duke and Grayskull were left to die in a garbage bin. The four cats have settled into the home and share responsibility for Daredevil. The cats keep him company, ensuring he is never lonely. They use him as a lounge chair, ensuring they get restful, comfy naps. They are his constant companions.

Animals are very attentive to the needs of other animals. When Oko was a small puppy, he became a seeing-eye dog for his blind older brother. The pup settled into the role instinctively and guided Tao whenever they were in new environments. Maverick is another golden retriever puppy who stepped into the role of guide dog for blind older brother Charlie.

Daredevil’s “Danger Crew” is always near. Dangermouse is almost obsessive about the blind golden retriever. He stalks the sleeping dog, plotting the perfect time to wake him. The cat gently nudges the big dog until he wakes, and it is adorable. The bond they share is one of the amazing things we may never understand about the animal kingdom.

Due to his blindness, Daredevil was adopted “as is” at eight weeks old. To see more of this amazing adaptation story, follow Daredevil and Friends on TikTok.
