Very few people in this world can have a party as epic as the one Elouise Lyons had – she was born in the 1920s which allowed her to have the perfect theme… yep, you guessed it: The Roaring Twenties!
Elouise, who is a lifelong Kansas City resident, recently turned 102 years old. It’s not every day that you get to celebrate your 102nd birthday, so Elouise’s friends and family came together to celebrate in style at Glenwood Village in Overland Park.
“We danced a little bit,” said Elouise.
When asked about her secret to longevity, Elouise didn’t have any insights to give other than the fact that she believes both her and her twin sister “apparently” did something right.
Her son, Paul Lyons, says the key is her positivity and a daily shot of Scotch whiskey.
“That’s something she’s been doing for years and years,” Paul said.
Elouise’s twin sister lives in San Francisco. Although she couldn’t come to Elouise’s party, the memories they share keep them together, despite the distance. Over the years, they’ve been able to experience many historical changes.
“When she was born, they had just started flying airplanes,” Paul said. “I can’t imagine we’ll ever see that happen again.”
