En route to Israel with his family, a famous Los Angeles businessman and philanthropist happened upon 400 US soldiers in the airport terminal. The military men were preparing to eat their issued paper sack lunches during a layover in Shannon, Ireland, but the businessman in question, Shlomo Rechnitz, decided they deserved something better.

Rechnitz approached the commander of the unit and told him he wanted to treat the servicemen to a snazzy dinner to send them on their way… all 400 of them. At first, the commander refused saying the gesture was unnecessary, but Rechnitz insisted and offered each of the servicemen any meal in the airport for up to $50.
That’s right. Just like that, Rechnitz forked out $20,000 just so these military men and women could eat a nice meal before their deployment. After the servicemen ate, the commander asked Rechnitz to share with the rest of us, over a video, why he decided to do something so incredible.
Rechnitz addressed the men saying,
”…you guys risk your lives to protect me and protect my family. If I get to go out and see a whole bunch of Army soldiers and Marines, it’s something that makes me proud. I’m on my way to Israel now and you guys protect them too, and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.â€
