We’re just ahead of the 2025 holiday season, and if you haven’t already, it’s probably time to start planning. The bustling season will be here before we know it, and that will mean lots of decorating, socializing, and, of course, shopping. Retail has undergone significant changes in the last several years, with many stores closing their doors. But it’s not all bad news. Some businesses, such as Barnes & Noble, will expand in the fall of 2025 and beyond. According to USA Today, the bookseller plans to open 30 new locations this fall.

“It’s an exciting time for us,” Barnes & Noble shared in a statement obtained by the outlet. “Sales in the new stores with their new design and format are exceeding our forecasts, people are lining up around the block for openings and with a strong Fall publishing we expect a great Holiday season.”
Barnes & Noble Has Opened Dozens Of Stores SO Far This Year
USA Today reported Barnes & Noble has already opened 34 stores so far in 2025. Many, but not all, feature a B&N Café inside. The chain plans to open another 31 bookstores, including some relocations, by he end of the year.
In a news release announcing the grand opening of a new Barnes & Noble store in Maryland, the company shared it’s on a great trajectory.
“Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers,” the release explains. “In 2024, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 60 new bookstores in 2025.”
