Backyard Ducks Choose Rather Unusual Creature As Their “Supreme Leader”

Several ducks walk around in a grassy area near a fence. They follow an animal who can't be fully seen in this image. All that can be seen is a fluffy light brown tail

As I’m sure you’ve seen from TV and movies, animals like ducks have the ability to imprint on creatures that aren’t their mom. According to the Wildlife Leadership Academy, this process is a bit more complex than it may seem. That said, the process isn’t too far off from what you imagine. “Still uncomfortable with this new leadership role,” someone points out, another adding, “Listen, when the ducks make you their God, you have to rise to the occasion. Some have greatness thrust upon them…”

Becoming an unexpected parent to ducks isn’t easy, but it is doable. Just take a look at how Fred the Lab handled adopting nine orphaned ducks. Plus, this duck who waits for the school bus every day is a reminder that humans can get imprinted on, too!
