It was more than he could chew — literally! A baby hippo named Omo at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo received a special treat from caregivers: his very own watermelon. His mom apparently loves this delicacy, crushing whole melons, rind and all, inside her strong mouth. However, poor Omo wasn’t really sure what to do with his snack. He ended up rolling it around the enclosure until Mom stepped in.
Mama hippo took the small watermelon into her mouth and smashed it up, leaving a tiny piece behind that little Omo could more easily eat. He seemed perfectly happy with his significantly smaller snack. We’re sure that, eventually, he’ll get the hang of eating watermelon. Until then, he’s got his mom to help!
