On August 6, Kelly Clarkson abruptly postponed her Las Vegas residency. She made the announcement on Instagram, without giving many details, but shared that her children’s father, Brandon Blackstock, was ill.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she wrote. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
The comment section had mixed reactions from fans. Some understood and wanted Kelly to be with her kids, without question. Others complained about money wasted on hotel rooms and airfare. Less than 24 hours after Kelly Clarkson’s announcement, the family confirmed Brandon Blackstock passed away.

Kelly Clarkson married Brandon Blackstock in 2013, and the pair went on to share children, River Rose and Remington Alexander. They separated in 2020, and their divorce was finalized in 2022. According to Brandon’s family, he’d been ill for quite some time.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” his family confirmed in a statement to People. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Following the news of Brandon Blackstock’s death, many fans shared kind words on Kelly Clarkson’s Instagram page.
“I truly hope anyone who wrote a comment on here complaining about the loss of their hotel room or flights has a hard look at themselves,” one wrote.
