Annalise Ryan lives in San Diego. She has a Korean grandmother who is a beacon of brightness in this world. When her brother recently returned from military service after a two-year absence, they planned a surprise. The fix was in, and Grandma had no clue what was coming. There was a knock on the door, and an Amazon delivery guy waited patiently on the porch.

Grandpa answered the door and handed the package in as Grandma ran to the door to sign for it. After getting the signature, the Amazon driver (colorfully) asks to use their bathroom. Grandma asked the driver if he meant it, and he replied he did. The girls are on the sofa and can’t control their laughter. They know it’s their brother who is there on leave from the military to surprise their grandparents.
As he sets his clipboard down and goes into the little room to do his business, Grandma says that he looks like Antony (the grandson she thinks is still in England). This causes more outbursts of laughter from the girls. Grandma is laughing at them laughing, but still has no clue what is really going on.
The driver returns to grab his clipboard, and thanks the nice lady for her hospitality. She tells him it was no problem, then explains that all her grandkids were visiting her. Then, as if this wasn’t strange enough already, one of the girls asks the random Amazon driver if he would like some chicken soup. He says, “Sure,” and Grandma jumps up to grab him some.
Girls Plan A Surprise When Their Brother Is Home From The Military
Grandma comes back out with a plastic container and plastic utensils and tells him he can keep it. Then he asks if he can eat it there, pointing to the dining room. Agreeable Grandma has now allowed this “stranger” to use her restroom, given him food, and is now making him feel at home at her dining room table.
Grandpa must be used to this, or he is in on it, because he is not even flinching as she treats this stranger like family. The young man had been wearing a mask, but he removed it before sitting to eat. It was at that moment that Grandma realized who he was.
As surprises go, this was one of the best.
