13-Yr-Old Sets 7 Women’s Figure Skating Records.

Figure skating is an incredibly demanding sport, but some people manage to make it look easy.

In March 2018, a talented young lady named Alexandra Trusova took to the ice at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. Remember her name, because we’ll no doubt be seeing a lot of this Russian skater in the years to come — because she is amazing.

At just thirteen years-old, Alexandra burst onto the figure skating world stage, winning the world junior title and making history by performing two quadruple jumps in her free-skating routine.

Thanks to her breathtaking performance on the ice, this barely-teenager is now the first woman to land two quads in on program, and only the second woman to land a fully rotated quad in competition. During the routine, she managed to land the challenging quad Salchow and an impeccable quadruple toe loop — the first one ever performed by a woman in competition.

“I am very happy to have won, but I’m even happier to have landed the two quads. I prepared for that and I did it,”Alexandra said. “After I landed the quads, I was very happy, but I still had the rest of the program to do. There were still three difficult combinations to come and I had to pull myself together.â€

Skating to Vivaldi’s “Summer,” Alexandra glided over the ice like she was born to skate. Her performance was not just beautiful to behold; it was also technically perfect. In addition to the achievements listed above, Alexandra is now the first woman to land a quad toe loop, the first woman to do a clean program without doubles, the first woman to land three triples in one program, and the woman with the highest technical score EVER.

So yes, she’s basically the best skater in history… and she’s only thirteen.

At just 4’10” tall, Alexandra’s coaches think her small stature helps her achieve the height in her jumps that sets her apart from other skaters. “The height of my jumps helps me to coordinate them. I can jump quite high naturally, I guess,” she explained.

And she’s already got the mindset of a true champion.

“If you train to jump every day, you’ll be able to do it. You just have to do it and not be afraid. I simply wanted to be able to do it and was never afraid of trying. If one really wants something, it’s possible to achieve it.”

Way to go, Alexandra! This is certainly the young woman to watch as she nears the age when she can start performing in adult competitions.
