Young Boy Bought Old Painting For $2 — Is Floored When He Discovers True Worth.

The average collector who shows up on “Antiques Roadshow” is much, much older than the bright-eyed youngster who showed up with a watercolor painting a few years back.

But the boy demonstrated a remarkable level of maturity, which was reflected by his chosen hobby. He liked to collect antiques. His favorite items to collect were glass, sterling silver, and art. He also enjoyed buying and selling items.

On that day, he chose to bring in a painting he bought at an auction in South Jersey. David Weiss was on hand to appraise it.

The young boy described how he begged his dad to stick around at an auction so he could get the painting at a good price – and after an hour, he ended up paying only $2 for it!

It turned out that the watercolor painting was the work of Albert Neuhuys, a 19th-century artist who was born in Holland (Netherlands). The subject of his work often dealt with everyday family life.

When David asked the youngster how much he thought his painting would be worth at auction today, the boy guessed upwards of $150. But it turned out he was way off…

In reality, the Neuhuys painting is worth anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500!

The look on the young boy’s face when he hears the news says it all.

As David says, if this little aspiring antique collector keeps it up, he may end up making a good living out of his hobby one day.
