When you are a parent raising a little human, there are more bright spots than anyone can count. When a baby gurgles, spits, and babbles, we melt. This little mini person we created is beginning to communicate, which is miraculous. At 14 months old, Alex and Carrie had read to their daughter Eliana daily since birth. Now, Eliana is reading to them in her own baby babble language, and it’s adorable.

Eliana probably knows exactly what she is saying, even though no one else does. Babies begin babbling between four and six months. It will continue as they explore their voice and different sounds. They are practicing and learning to speak. When they master certain sounds like dada dada, they will use these new words.
All babies talk at different times. Some children learn one word at a time, while others may be silent for 18 months and start speaking in full sentences. Check with your pediatrician if you have concerns about whether your child is meeting the appropriate milestones. Most children begin using real words by the age of two.

As Eliana reads, you can hear slight changes in pitch and intonation. The words may be “Blah-baaa-blah-daaa-baaa” but each has its own inflection. This is a telltale sign that she is saying something meaningful to her. It is also a sign that real words will be coming along soon.
When a child begins differentiating syllables and using emphasis, they are on the cusp of “graduating” from baby babbling to using real words. The intonations are clear. Eliana uses inflection in her reading, although it isn’t as pronounced as the upset babies. You can follow her parents and progress on TikTok and Instagram.
