My grandad was the one who first introduced me to the big band era. In his heyday he played saxophone in a North Carolina troupe and wrote hundreds of his own songs. I’ve listened to the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin ever since and the music never fails to brighten my day.

When 16-year-old Riley Elmore stepped on stage at the 2016 blind auditions of The Voice, and started to belt out a classic, he brought the nostalgia in the best possible way. He sang Sinatra’s classic tune “Just The Way You Look Tonight” with such style and old world charm that Adam Levine immediately hit his buzzer so he could watch and enjoy the rest of the performance.
By the end of his audition, all four judges were clamoring to give the young crooner their two cents. Adam seemed bound and determined to add Riley to his roster, so much so that he poked fun at Blake to turn the tide.
But the best part happened when Adam jumped up on the stage to teach Riley a thing or two. Though the 16-year-old is a born performer, Adam showed Riley how to “loosen up” a bit and then led him off in a duet that the young singer will likely never forget.
