A Teen Bet His Friend $10 He’d Marry His High School Sweetheart—He Got The Money As A Wedding Gift 8 Years Later

Marriage Bet

When Brodie and Savannah Richards met in high school, Brodie knew their puppy love was real. In 2016, he told a friend who happened to be taking a video that he was going to marry Savannah and sealed the $10 bet with a handshake.

Savannah told People, “His friend was like, ‘You guys are like 15 years old. You’re not gonna get married. That doesn’t happen.’ But it did. We really are just best friends. We fit together from the moment we met. It was so much of a strong friendship that it came so easy to love him. He’s a great guy. If you know Brodie, you love him.”

Savannah Didn’t Know Her Husband Bet They’d Get Married For a Long Time

Savannah explained to People that she was talking about posting something on social media with the friend who shot the video. News of the footage shocked Savannah.

“I asked her to find it. I felt like I had to see it to believe it. Then she sent it to me, I always knew we were going to get married, so I held onto the video for about four years now, just hoping that one day I would be able to have that moment. I wanted to be able to use that video and say, ‘Yeah, we really did it.’ Even when you’re really young, if you know, you know.”

The couple got their happily ever after. They share a 1-year-old daughter and said “I do” in April 2024. Savannah told People the friend who shot the video couldn’t attend the wedding celebration. But she had the last laugh.

“She did send me a card in the mail with $10 in it,” she added. “So we did get our $10, and we have it framed.”
