Layla Capri

Layla Capri is InspireMore’s Every Song Has A Story promotion winner for her song, “Your Story’s Not Over Yet.”

“‘Your Story’s Not Over Yet’ came after I lost my cousin to suicide,” Capri told InspireMore. “Walking through that season of grief with my family, we found out just how prevalent mental health struggles are. In fact, 1 in 4 people experience some form of a mental health struggle in their lifetime. Knowing that statistic, the scale is overwhelming.”

“There are so many people who need to know that they have a hope and a future,” she continued. “I wanted to write a song that said everything I wish I could’ve said to my cousin, or to anyone walking through a similar season.  You are loved, you are never alone, and there is always hope.”

Layla Capri Q&A

WHAT GOT YOU INTO MUSIC?

I grew up in a small church surrounded by relatives who sang. Every family gathering involved music in some way, and eventually I started leading worship with them. Growing up in that environment was so special to me, and it gave me a foundation, both spiritually and musically, that has shaped who I am today.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SONGWRITING?

I started writing songs when I was 10, and I fell in love with the process of storytelling. I was mentored by songwriters who showed me how to foster that love, and those mentorships opened doors for me in Nashville. It’s such a joy to write about the things on my heart, and then to see those topics resonate with other people. I’m blessed to do what I do.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT THIS SONG OVER ALL THE OTHERS IN YOUR CATALOGUE?

This song is especially important to myself and to my family. The topic is important, vulnerable, and so dear to my heart. With the title of this promotion being what it is, I knew that “Your Story’s Not Over Yet” was the perfect song of mine to submit.

WHAT HAS WINNING MEANT TO YOU?

I’m so grateful for the ways this song has reached people, and I know God will use it according to His plan. There are so many people that are walking through this struggle themselves or with a loved one, and I hope each and every one gets to hear about the hope and the peace that is Jesus. I’m so humbled to be able to share my heart and this song with many.

WHAT SONGWRITERS AND ARTISTS DO YOU COUNT AS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS? WHY?

There’s so many names that come to mind, and over my life my answer has changed many times. As of recently, I’ve really been inspired by Natalie Hemby’s work. Her song “Rainbow,” recorded by Kacy Musgraves, is a true songwriting masterclass. As for artists, I’m so excited by Lauren Daigle and Franni Cash. They both have so much fun with everything they do, and they’re some of the most talented artists in this industry. I’m always inspired by their songs, as well as their heart for others.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PLANS IN 2026.

October 1st I am releasing a new single! This project is all about seeing the good in everyone, so I’m excited to share it. I’ll have an EP releasing this spring, and I’m going on a mini tour this fall to support some incredible artists and songwriters. Can’t wait!

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST CAREER DREAM?

It’s always been a goal of mine to play the Ryman. I’ve seen so many shows there, and my mind is always blown at the level of artistry and talent on that stage. It’s my favorite venue by far, and the history there is incredible. Someday I hope to!

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL OTHER ARTISTS WHO ARE CONSIDERING ENTERING THE CONTEST?

Do it! You’ll never know until you try, and your story is worth sharing, too. Every song has something unique and valuable about it, and you’ll never know how it could impact someone’s life until you step out in faith to share it. Your words are something only you can say, so make sure they’re heard.
