In a video supplied by zoo visitor Alyssa K., Sedgwick County Zoo staff point out elephants’ protective nature. Bomani, the baby elephant, saw a Canada goose. Baby elephants like chasing birds. The adult elephants recognized the potential danger presented by the goose. The adults, Talia (mom), Simunye, and Arusi, immediately formed a circle around Bomani.

Elephants maintain some herd practices even in human care. The video shows how adult elephants automatically work together to protect the herd’s tiniest member. With the size difference, you might think one Canada goose would not pose a threat to a huge elephant. It may not have under normal circumstances, but parents will be parents.
Baby elephants are always a favorite at any zoo. Like most animals, these little critters are prone to attacks of the zoomies. Watching a tiny elephant run gleefully around is an indescribable joy.
The Sedgwick County Zoo is in Wichita, Kansas, and is home to 3,000 animals. Their attractions include more than 400 individual species. Animals are in geographical groupings within habitats that mirror their native environments. If you can’t make it out to the zoo, they have set up animal cams that bring the zoo to you. You can view the Black-footed ferret, elephants, penguins, and more without leaving the comfort of your home.
If you visit the zoo, you can ride the Safari Express train around the facility. The zoo has attractions where visitors can feed sting rays and giraffes or take a conservation cruise for a unique view of zoo habitats. The SCZ Wild Encounters program allows visitors to interact up close with a rhinoceros, ambassador animals, penguins, a horse, and a giant tortoise.
