Being a face painter can be grueling. At some venues, it can mean a never-ending stream of little faces wanting everything imaginable. The job requires imagination, versatility, and some talent. The one thing you can’t pack in your painting kit is patience. That is why one artist loves it when adults get in line for face painting and say, “Just do whatever.”

Having the freedom to work with no restrictions is heaven for an artist. When she is face painting adults, they don’t care how long it takes. They don’t fidget in the chair or flinch when the brush moves. They sit still in quiet anticipation of something extraordinary. In this case, the blank palette is a shaved head on an adult man. To say that he left the face painting booth with a little egg on his face would be an understatement.
The artist dropped a large, perfectly fried egg right on the top of his shaved head. Starting with a bold outline of white paint, she created a wavy line around the circumference of his head. Then she added a large yellow circle on the top of his head. Most people have already guessed what she is painting at this point. With the yellow circle complete, the artist returned to white paint using a wider brush.

She began filling in the blank white areas around the yellow circle. The specific shape, now evident, gave the effect that it was so hot the egg was frying on the man’s head. After adding the final touches, the face painter displayed her painting to the adult using a mirror. The result was a perfect fried egg with crispy edges and a perfectly cooked yolk.
