These Olympic victories are particularly special for the friends, family members, and hometowns of the competitors. We’ve gathered some of our favorite celebrations caught on video below, and we can’t seem to stop smiling.

1. Lydia Jacoby of Alaska couldn’t have made her loved ones back home prouder when she got first place in the 100-meter breaststroke!

3. Triathlete Flora Duffy made her dad – along with the entire country of Bermuda – proud when she brought home their first gold medal!

4. Tunisia’s Ahmed Hafnaoui’s road to the Olympics wasn’t easy, but that made his gold medal victory all the more rewarding!

5. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu’s family and neighbors gathered back home in India to watch her compete, and the exciting moment she won silver was caught on video!

6. Caeleb Dressel’s family wasn’t able to be there in person to celebrate him winning the gold medal for the men’s 100-meter freestyle, but they were able to share an emotional moment with him via video call afterward.

7. Swimmer Tom Dean’s family went absolutely wild when the Berkshire native won gold in the 200-meter freestyle.

8. Julio Mayora’s entire neighborhood back in Venezuela held an event to watch him compete in weightlifting. He won the silver medal in the 73 kilogram category, and their excitement is contagious!

9. At 46 years old, Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan just finished her eighth and final Olympics. The gymnast has earned respect from teammates and competitors alike, and that couldn’t have been clearer when she received a standing ovation.
