7 Selfless “Helpers” Who Would’ve Made Mr. Rogers Proud

7. Justice Smith’s son taught him a very important life lesson when he almost didn’t let his 5-year-old donate 30 cents to a homeless man.

“I almost taught him that pride was more important than helping another human in need… Thank God I quickly snapped out of that foolishness … The smile on that man’s face lit UP the intersection and he said to Justus, ‘God bless you little man! Thank you so much!'” Justice shared on Facebook. “Our son’s pure and genuine act of kindness also caused a chain reaction behind us AFTER the light turned green in rush hour traffic – and it wasn’t a chain reaction of people impatiently honking their horns!”

Mr. Rogers’ quote was originally meant to help kids cope during scary moments in life they may be too young to fully understand. Now, as adults, it serves two purposes: to remind us of all the good still in the world and to encourage us to become those “helpers” ourselves.
