33 Dogs Found Living In “Deplorable Conditions” Get 2nd Chance At Life.

Four German Shepherd Rescue Dogs Stand Together and Look Up at the Camera. With Their Mouths Open and Tongues Hanging Out, They Almost Appear to be Smiling.

Is there anything more heartwarming than animal rescue stories?

Of course, nobody wants to hear about vulnerable members of society facing abuse or neglect. However, some of these stories prove that, even in tragic circumstances, there can be light at the end of the darkest tunnel.

In September of this year, 33 dogs were rescued from a German Shepherd breeding business in Putnam County, Indiana, where they were living in “deplorable conditions.”

Thankfully, those dark moments are a thing of the past for these adorable pups! Fast forward to today: Many of these dogs are getting ready to find their forever homes.

After initially being rescued, four dogs found shelter at the German Shepherd Dogs and Siberian Husky Rescue of Owen County. The remaining dogs, which included both German Shepherds and Rottweilers, were taken to Putnam County Animal Care and Control. As the shelter was over capacity at the time, other animal welfare agencies soon stepped up to assist with housing the dogs and canvassing for donations. The money collected was used to offset medical expenses like spay and neuter surgeries, in addition to treatments for heartworm and Lyme disease.

A number of rescue teams have since shared updates on Facebook to let people know just how much these dogs have improved over a relatively short period of time.

The progress is astounding. From helpless victims to resilient survivors, their transformation is plain to see in the uplifting photos that accompany each post.

“All of the shepherds are doing great,” wrote Putnam County Animal Care on Facebook. “All of them have gained weight, coats are filling in beautifully and their personalities are starting to show and they are learning to be dogs!”

A new sense of freedom and security has allowed them to flourish in the capable hands of rescue workers. And without the constant burden of survival, dogs are even beginning to show off their individual personalities. Who can resist the unbridled joy or unconditional love of a rescue dog?

While we may never understand animal cruelty, one thing is clear: There are plenty of caring individuals willing to step up for abused animals. Thanks to the good people of Indiana, these rescue dogs have been given a second chance at life and are now ready for adoption. We couldn’t be happier for the deserving pups or their lucky owners!
