15 States Will See Back-To-Back Northern Lights This Week

Northern Lights

Unlike many of us, Mother Nature has yet to take a break this summer. While we went on vacation, she was busy giving us beautiful works of art in the evening sky. Several times this summer, many viewed the aurora borealis, commonly referred to as the northern lights. She’s set the stage again for quite a show on July 22 and July 23, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s latest forecast. While seeing the northern lights is quite a treat, several factors must cooperate to have the best view. If the sky is clear and the weather is good, many folks will be able to see the aurora borealis in all its glory this week.

Some People Will Get To See The Northern Lights Two Nights In A Row

The northern lights will be visible to more people on Tuesday than Wednesday, as the forecast looks more favorable. Per the NOAA, if you live in Alaska, Washington, northern Idaho, Montana, northern Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, northern Iowa, Wisconsin, northern Michigan, northern New York, northern Vermont, northern New Hampshire, and northern Maine, you may be able to see the northern lights.

On July 23, a small group will be able to see the northern lights, but some could double dip. If you’re in Alaska, northern Washington, northern Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, northern South Dakota, Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, northern Michigan, and northern Maine, you may be in luck.

The Aurora Guy suggests using timelapse recording if you want to video the northern lights.

“Avoid headlamps, turning on your car headlights, or walking around in your shot as your camera takes pictures. Even if you only turn on a light for a few seconds, this will show up as an annoying flash in your video which is hard to remove,” he explains. “People moving in a shot can be a cool look, but usually I don’t prefer it. Aurora is the focus, here!”
