When what you’re seeing doesn’t match reality, you could be looking at an optical illusion.
If you’ve ever struggled to see the hidden image in a “magic eye” painting, you know just how much these tricks can mess with your head! Here are a few jaw-dropping examples that have us rubbing our eyes in disbelief.
1. The dots may look different, but they’re all the same color.
A new Munker illusion, which I call confetti. All the dots in the background are the same color (RGB 250, 219, 172) but are perceived as four different colors. The differences are subtle, though, and depend on the size of the image when it’s viewed. cc @AkiyoshiKitaoka pic.twitter.com/vT6x64LLTy— David Novick (@NovickProf) July 18, 2018

10. Makeup artist Mimi Choi is so talented, it’s scary. Like, really scary.
11. Behold! The shrinking and growing effect of the Ames Room.
12. Warning: Skip this one if you’re sensitive to movement, strobe lights, or have epilepsy. In case you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to hallucinate…
