His mother became pregnant with him during the Vietnam War, by an American stationed in her city. Minutes after Kirk was born, he was taken from the arms of his mother and sent to an orphanage.

His serviceman father had been transferred to a different military base months before his birth. The soldier lost touch with his mother Thuy-Nga Thi Nibblett and never knew about the pregnancy.
But Nibblett’s father did not approve of his daughter’s pregnancy and planned from the beginning to take the child away. When the boy was two years old, he was adopted by an American family.

The grieving mother spent the next 48 years praying to reunite with her son when a whim led her to take the first step. She signed up for a DNA website focused on reuniting parents with their children, and hoped her son would do the same.
Amazingly, Kirk, now married with children, signed up for the website two years ago thanks to some prodding from his wife. Days later, he received an email with a phone number asking him to call.
