19 years ago Officer James Poole pulled a drowning 5 year old boy from a swimming pool in Columbus, Ohio. If it weren’t for Poole, now 24 year old Chris Jones would not be alive today. Jones has always dreamt of thanking Poole for his heroic actions that day and just last week, he finally got the chance to do so.

Jones walked into the Colombus Police Academy on Friday and tapped the unsuspecting Poole on the shoulder. “Do you remember me?”Jones asked him, “About 1997, you pulled a 5-year-old out of a swimming pool, saved his life.”The change that came over Poole was incredible.
Officer Poole stood and wrapped up the 24-year-old in a giant bear hug. If it wasn’t for Poole, the strong young man and his 5-year-old daughter, Aleah Roach, would not be here today. “Because of you, I’m still here,”Jones told Poole. “Because of you, this 5-year-old little girl right here is here.â€
Jones thanked his rescuer again, to which Poole emotionally responded, “I just did my job.“I never thought that something I would do 19, 20 years later would come back, and somebody would thank me.â€
In a time when police officers are often treated without respect, it’s wonderful to know that some still back the blue.
